Parallel Reality

Dreams of youthful memories that never were
reconcile poorly
in the bumbling reality
of wakefulness.
I sit up, bleary eyed, and wonder
at the parallel existence
of my slumber self, her friends and lovers,
peripheral players and petty enemies,
and ask aloud if she is also
thinking of me.
