Red Season Returns

Ice water sluices off sheer granite faces
Carving fissures in winter’s blue palaces.
Frozen crust dissolves to reveal the footprints
Of early man, footprints and tracks in relief.
Red branches shoot forth from yellowed ground
Drawing weary eyes from sky to earth and back again.
